Making an appointment

Making an appointment at Melbourne Heart Clinic for Kids is easy. Here's how it works, from referral to results.

Please note: Current wait time for new patients is approximately 5 months. If your child needs to be seen urgently, please ask your referring doctor to contact us directly.

Step by step

From referral to results

The first step is always a referral — this can come from your GP or a specialist.

01

Get a referral

Your GP or specialist sends a referral — quickly through our online form, or by email/fax. A valid referral is needed for your Medicare rebate.

02

We contact you

Once a referral is received, our reception team calls within 24–48 hours to arrange a day and time that suits your family.

03

Your visit

Each new appointment runs about 1.5 hours — roughly an hour of testing, then 30 minutes with your cardiologist, all in one visit.

04

Results & rebate

Tests are interpreted the same day. Payment is settled on the day and we lodge your Medicare claim electronically on your behalf.

What to expect

Sending your referral

A referral can be made through our website for ease by your GP or specialist — this comes directly to our reception team. If you’ve been given a hard-copy referral, please send it to reception@mhck.com.au or fax (03) 9345 6580.

We’ll be in touch

Once a referral is received, our reception team will contact you to discuss day and time options — usually within 24–48 hours.

Your appointment

Each new appointment takes about 1.5 hours — roughly an hour of testing and 30 minutes with your cardiologist. Our clinic is open four days a week (closed Tuesdays), and each cardiologist works on specific days.

Reminders

Once your appointment is confirmed, you’ll receive an email with the details, and a reminder text about three days beforehand.

Payment & Medicare

We’re a private clinic, so payment is due in full on the day. We then send your Medicare claim electronically on your behalf.
